Black History Month 2021 each day I spend researching meditating on and curating a personal reflection of Black history and what it meant to me. In my researching and creating this celebratory website I documented my journey learning about history that I hadn't made time to learn prior to. I was able to make connections to my own family, personal and historical traumas and questions I had about moving forward and reconciling myself to the history and maturing in my own understanding of self as it relates to the long history of slavery and systemic oppression. I am a solution and growth focused person so as I embarked on this task for a grueling 29 days, I made it my aim to  vision and believe that a better more just world is accessible to me if I take ownness of my part in making that happen. What I've often seen in my experience is that with more knowledge, pessimism, anger and unforgiveness can result. I did not want to be like that. I wanted to see solutions forward while grieving and honouring the past 500 years of my Black ancestry.  It is without a doubt that my life has been transformed by this experience. I feel freed from societal blinders by coming to know the where, what, why, who & how of race and prejudice was introduced, indoctrinated and upheld. What brought me much joy resilience and hope is to bare witness to the strength, resilience and faith of many Black people in the America's who resisted being belittled and made less than human. I am invigorated, and excited for the next step, which is to complete my thesis on the topic of Traumatization in Education and feasible pathways forward.
